In-Person Volunteer Opportunities

Kit Making Volunteers

Our kit assembly events are where the spirit of Grace Helping Hands truly shines. Volunteers of all ages come together to pack hygiene kits filled with care, purpose, and dignity.

We meet monthly, typically Saturdays for 2-4 hours, to assemble kits, which are then distributed throughout Maryland. This in-person activity involves attending the kit assembly event, packaging hygiene kits, writing short encouragement notes to be included in the kits, and setup and breakdown of the event. Please wear closed toe shoes.

Event details are shared two weeks in advance through our newsletter, website, and social media — and this opportunity is eligible for Student Service Learning (SSL) hours.

These events are hands-on, rewarding, and filled with community connection. Spend a day with us and see your time make a direct impact.

Team/Family Kit Making

Your group is welcome to schedule a special kit making session if you are willing to collect travel sized toiletries needed for the kits. Once your group has collected the items, we can schedule a dedicated kit-making session just for your group. Click the link to view the list of items that make our kits: 2026 Hygiene Kit Items.

If you are interested in scheduling a team/family kit making event, please email us at info@gracehelpinghands.org or fill our our contact form on our website.

Kit Distribution Volunteers

Grace Helping Hands is seeking volunteers to support hygiene kit distribution at our collaborating service sites. Each distribution event is held in partnership with shelters and outreach organizations such as City of Refuge Baltimore, Progress Place, Helping Up Mission, and Shepherd’s Table.

Volunteers will assist with delivering and handing off pre-assembled hygiene kits to partner organizations. This opportunity is ideal for volunteers who want to make a direct, community-based impact through simple but meaningful service. Together, we ensure that every individual receives their kit with care and dignity in a welcoming, judgment-free environment.

If you are interested in volunteering as a kit distribution volunteer, please fill out the form below. We will contact you when distribution opportunities are available.

These roles are perfect for individuals, families, or groups who want to serve hands-on in the community. They involve direct participation in events, outreach, and physical kit assembly or distribution. All positions are eligible for SSL hours; great for schools, faith groups, or corporate teams.

Additional Information

Participation Age

Our minimum volunteer is 15 years of age or older. However, we do make exceptions for younger volunteers who are accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian.

Service Hours

SSL hours are calculated according on the quantity of finished kits. We will check the total and validate your service hours.

  • 20 hygiene kits = 1 service hour

  • More hours will be allocated in accordance with larger volumes.

Writing encouraging cards is another way to accrue SSL hours. Encouragement cards should be clearly and legibly written on 3x5 index cards. You can arrange a drop-off with us or bring a card to a kit-making session. As soon as we receive and review the cards, you will receive a confirmation of your service hours.

  • 30 cards = 1 service hour

  • Larger quantities will receive additional hours accordingly.

Image Release Form

To support our marketing and digital communications, Grace Helping Hands volunteers may take photos and videos during kit-making and kit distribution events. At each event, volunteers will be asked to sign an image release form. The image release form is also available here: Grace Helping Hands Image Release Form.
